Car

From Munich approx. 2 hours

From Salzburg approx. 1 hour: South on the Tauern Autobahn (motorway) to Bischofshofen, Gasteinertal exit, then highway B 167 to the Gastein Valley.

From Innsbruck approx. 2 hours: Autobahn via Wörgl, highway B 312 via St.Johann/Tirol to Lofer, B 311 via Zell am See to Lend, B 167 to Gastein or on the autobahn via Kufstein - Salzburg - Villach, Gasteinertal exit, B 167 to the Gastein Valley.

Coming from the south, drive via Villach, Möllbrücke and Obervellach to Mallnitz, at which point you will be able to enjoy the convenience of motorail service to Gastein - Timetable of Autoschleuse Tauernbahn

Plane

The nearest airports are Salzburg and Munich.

The Airport Shuttle runs daily 8 times Gastein to Munich and Salzburg and back (€58, - out and back). For more information about departure times and prices can be found here.

Airport Express provides an inexpensive way to get to Gastein! Regularly scheduled service available through Rainer Reisen


Railway

The railway stations in Bad Hofgastein and Bad Gastein are both halts for Euro-, InterCity and express trains, whereas not all trains make a stop in Dorfgastein. Taxi and bus service is always available to the various valley communities. The closest loading/unloading point for motorail trains is in Bischofshofen. Luggage transfer and pick-up service is also offered by the local taxi companies.

Under the slogan "Your vacation should begin at the doorstep", from the beginning of May until mid-October, a convenient opportunity arrival in a collective taxi from Deutschladn and along the route Vienna - Linz - Salzburg.

Regional Transit Information

Gastein Alpine Road - This scenic road is about 7 km in length and around 1600m above sea level, taking drivers through numerous galleries and tunnels between Böckstein (Nassfeld) and Sportgastein.

Toll Charges

Toll charges are already included in your valid ski pass whenever you are actively involved in winter sports. With regards to cross-country skiers who use the ski bus, the toll charge is paid for by the tourist office as part of a GENTLE MOBILITY community initiative. Cross-country enthusiasts, therefore, have to pay nothing at the toll station.
